Avoid Sample Contamination
When sampling with a vacuum pump, follow these simple tips to avoid sample contamination:
- After measuring the length or depth of the fill port tube, reservoir or dipstick retaining tube, add six inches and mark the measurement on the tubing. Cut the tubing 12 inches beyond this mark, insert it into the pump and tighten the lock ring.
- To avoid drawing settled debris into the sample, insert the tubing into the fill port, reservoir or dipstick retaining tube only to the mark on the tubing. Do not allow contact between the tubing and the bottom of the sump.
- Activate plunger until sample jar is only ¾ full. Avoid filling sample jar completely. Fluid can back up into pump and contaminate future samples.
- Remove filled jar from pump and replace the jar lid before wiping sample jar clean.
- Discard tubing after taking each sample to avoid contaminating next sample.
