POLARIS Laboratories® oil and fluid analysis testing.

It's More than Just Fluid Analysis…

POLARIS Laboratories® provides complete testing and analysis for oils, fuels, coolants and metalworking fluids for numerous applications in almost any industry. We enable you to see exactly what's happening inside a piece of equipment with both the fluid and the unit. The information we discover is our most valuable commodity — a commodity that can mean the difference between profit and loss for our customers.

Oil Analysis

Imagine being able to see the damage even extremely minute wear particles and debris can do to your equipment. Oil analysis is a preventive maintenance tool that can find problems before they become catastrophic failures, which means less unscheduled downtime and increased equipment reliability, productivity and profitability. Oil analysis with POLARIS Laboratories® can:

  • Extend oil drain intervals
  • Extend equipment life
  • Identify small problems before they become catastrophic failures
  • Maximize asset reliability

Wear Debris Analysis

Wear debris analysis is the microscopic examination of the particles present within a lubricant. Identifying what types of particles are being generated is helpful in determining their source and whether or not they are damaging to the equipment.

Technical Bulletins

Fuel Analysis

Fuel analysis can identify problems affecting fuel filter life and diesel engine performance such as filter plugging, loss of power or poor injector performance. Testing bulk fuel storage tanks can verify compliance with required supplier specifications.

Biodiesel Fuel Analysis

Testing biodiesel fuel deliveries can also be instrumental in avoiding potential maintenance problems. Like petroleum-based diesel, biodiesel can contribute to fuel filter plugging if physical properties aren't monitored regularly. Suitability for use is more of a concern with biodiesel as its natural composition allows for a typical shelf life of about six months. As degradation begins, a natural breeding ground for biological growth can develop quickly and testing therefore becomes imperative.

Additional Resources

Coolant Analysis

Coolant analysis takes the guesswork out of properly maintaining a cooling system and can identify maintenance problems before catastrophic engine failure occurs. Regular coolant testing and routine maintenance can help you achieve maximum system efficiency and save you time and money in less unscheduled downtime, fewer repairs and determining proper drain intervals.

Test List with Explanations

Coolant formulations are designed to minimize pitting, corrosion, cavitation, erosion and electrolysis but you can maximize their effectiveness by using coolant analysis to identify these conditions and determine whether or not the coolant you're using is providing adequate protection.

Additional Resources

Metalworking Fluids

Metalworking fluids are typically oils, water soluble oils, synthetics and other specialty fluids that are used in industrial machining, boring, stamping, grinding and cutting applications to increase lubrication, reduce wear and thermal deformation (cool), improve surface finish and flush away chips from the cutting zone. They are most often tested for contamination, water content and heat resistance and corrosion properties. Testing ensures that fluid properties meet the requirements of the manufacturing processes in which they are being used and should take into consideration application, purpose and composition.

Specialty Testing

Specialty testing is often requested when standard testing identifies specific issues or concerns that require more information or clarification. View Specialty Testing list.
