Glycol

Definition:

Glycol is a test used to check an oil for contamination from a glycol product such as antifreeze or water/glycol.

Standard Test Method Used:

FTIR - mod. ASTM D2982

Reporting Measurement:

positive / negative

Amount of Sample Needed:

8 mL

Test Limitation:

Some oil formulations will show false positive results. High engine operating temperature will decompose the glycol contamination, resulting in false negative results.
